Discover The Hague

The Hague combines the working centre of Dutch government with tree-lined avenues, major art collections and a North Sea coastline. Its civic landmarks and seaside neighbourhoods make a particularly varied stop.

Top sights and places worth exploring

Binnenhof

Explore the historic parliamentary quarter; check access because restoration can affect visits.

Mauritshuis

See Dutch masterpieces in an intimate museum setting near the pond.

Peace Palace

Learn about the city’s international legal role and investigate tour availability.

Scheveningen

Reach the seaside by local tram or bus, usually separate from rail-pass coverage.

A practical sightseeing plan

Spend the morning around the Hofvijver and Mauritshuis, then head to Scheveningen for a coastal afternoon.

Treat the historic centre and Scheveningen as separate parts of the day. A museum near the centre fits a compact city visit; the coast needs additional travel time and can be windy even when inland streets feel warm.

Getting to The Hague by rail

The city has more than one major station; Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag HS serve different routes and neighbourhoods.

Arrival point: Den Haag Centraal / Den Haag HS.

Check the exact train operator, any reservation requirement and the service's pass eligibility before you travel. The Benelux Pass does not cover travel beyond the participating network solely because a train begins or ends in the Benelux.

Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag HS are different railway stations. Check which is most convenient for your train and hotel. Trams to the coast need separate travel validity; they are not included in the regional rail pass.

Practical tips and timing

The Hague is a good base for nearby Delft and Leiden; allow time for local transport to the beach.

Check attraction opening arrangements, accessible entrances and the return journey for your actual travel date. Keep outdoor plans flexible when the weather changes, and allow a margin between a train arrival and any timed admission.
