Discover Bruges

Bruges is celebrated for its canals, stepped gables and intimate medieval streets. The busiest squares are famous for good reason, but its quieter waterside lanes offer some of the city’s most memorable moments.

Top sights and places worth exploring

Markt and Belfry

Admire the central market square and consider the tower climb.

Burg Square

Study the ornate buildings around one of Bruges’ loveliest squares.

Groeningemuseum

See important works of Flemish painting.

Beguinage

Enjoy a quieter historic setting near Minnewater.

A practical sightseeing plan

Arrive early, walk to Markt before the heaviest crowds, take a canal-side route and reserve the afternoon for art.

Start with the historic squares, then step away from the busiest canal viewpoints. An overnight stay gives you a chance to enjoy quieter streets after day visitors leave, while a day trip should allow a generous return to the station.

Getting to Bruges by rail

Brugge station is on Belgium’s main rail network; the historic core is a walk or local bus ride away.

Arrival point: Brugge.

Check the exact train operator, any reservation requirement and the service's pass eligibility before you travel. The Benelux Pass does not cover travel beyond the participating network solely because a train begins or ends in the Benelux.

Brugge station is outside the medieval centre. Include the walk or a separately paid local bus in your plan, especially with luggage. Choose accommodation by its actual location rather than assuming every central hotel is next to the railway.

Practical tips and timing

Overnight stays allow more peaceful evenings after many day visitors have departed.

Check attraction opening arrangements, accessible entrances and the return journey for your actual travel date. Keep outdoor plans flexible when the weather changes, and allow a margin between a train arrival and any timed admission.
